| Creative Works- Bits and Bytes | |||||||||||||
I published my first issue of Bits and Bytes in January of 2006 as a way to inform the teaching community at Greenhill School about effective use of technology in the 21 st century classroom. Prior to Bits and Bytes, I had leveraged the use of e-mail and the online community tool of Tapped In to try to engage the school community in dialogue surrounding learning theories that inform the use of technology for learning. However, this produced mixed results and confusion surrounding why a director of technology would be talking about learning theories and trying to get faculty to think about their practice. While there were a few faculty willing to engage in dialogue through the online community, many did not and word filtered back to me that some were even “put off” by the process. Reflecting on this, I decided I needed to provide greater context and exemplars of the use of technology on campus. Thus was born Bit and Bytes. Issues were published approximately every 2 months during the school year. Each issue included the following sections:
I later explored a student issue but did not find it to be as successful. This online publication ran for approximately three years when I determined that it had run its course as a campus publication.
